Philip R. Stockbridge
Philip R. Stockbridge, 78, of Seabrook, NH died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the Exeter Hospital.
He was born in Exeter, N.H. on December 20, 1932, the son of the late Earl R. and Hattie Myrtle (Brewster) Stockbridge.
Philip graduated from Exeter High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850).
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years, serving as a rural letter carrier.
Philip was a member of the Star in the East Lodge No. 59, F. and A. M, Exeter, NH; the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association from which he received the Outstanding Rural Letter Carrier award; The Tin Can Sailors, The National Association of Destroyer Veterans; the 470 Railroad Club. He recently received his 50 year membership pin from the NH Rural Letter Carrier Association in Concord, NH.
He served on the Seabrook Planning Board, the Seabrook Budget Committee, the Seabrook Economic Advisory Committee, the Rockingham Planning Commission, the Route 1 Study Committee, and a representative to the MPO. He had also served as President and Secretary of the NH Rural Letter Carrier Association. He was a volunteer call fireman for the Exeter Fire Department for the ladder company for 20 years
He was an avid model railroader and had been a co-owner of a railroad caboose housed at the Conway Scenic Railroad in North Conway, NH. He enjoyed attending model railroad shows with his many, many model railroad friends, as well as attending the former Great Bay Railroad group in Greenland, NH.
He was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed the works of Exeter author Brendan DuBois. He loved music, particularly that of Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Gaither musical productions.
Philip is survived by his wife of 32 years, Cora (Eaton) Stockbridge, and his eight children, Douglas R. Stockbridge of Kennebunk, Me.; Daniel B. Stockbridge of Hampton, NH; Donna L. McBride of Hampton, NH and David W. Stockbridge of Dover, NH; Coralee U. Beal of Chester, NH; Bambi Beal-Carson of Seabrook, NH; Barbara J. Beal of Florida; and Robert Beal of Sandown, NH.; his ten grandchildren Hilary Stanton-Geddes, Douglas R. Stockbridge, Jr., Robert D. Stockbridge, Elizabeth Stockbridge; Kristin Clifford, Brian Stockbridge, Keith Stockbridge; Jonathan McBride, Joshua McBride, Kayla McBride; his two great-grandchildren, Mya M. Clifford and Madeleine Stanton-Geddes and his precious kitties, Blackie and Baby Girl.
He was predeceased by his brother Robert Stockbridge in 2004.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Church, Lafayette Road, Seabrook, NH at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
