John W. Smallwood
Exeter, NH – John W. Smallwood, 93, of Exeter, NH formerly of Glen Rock, NJ died Friday, October 2, 2015 at the Exeter Hospital.
He was born November 19, 1921 in Glen Rock, NJ, the son of the late John and Carolyn (Linkroum) Smallwood, Sr.
Mr. Smallwood was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ and received his degree from Wesleyn University in Middletown, CT. He was an Oil Analyst and General Partner of the investment banking firm Carl H. Pforzheimer & Co. in New York, NY.
He served in the Army Air Force (99th Bomb Group, 15th Air Force) from 1943-1945 as a B-17 Bombardier. He completed 14 combat missions before being shot down over Regensburg, Germany, and hospitalized in Austria. He spent 19 months as a P.O.W. in Stalag Luft I, Barth Germany. He was awarded two purple hearts, two distinguished Unit Citations and two air medals.
He was a member of the Union Club of Boston, The Boston Athenaeum, Woodstock C.C. of Woodstock, VT, The Moorings Club, FL, 15th Air Force Association, American EX-POWs, Bombardiers Inc, American Legion, Past president of 99th Bomb Group Historical Society, Trustee for Hartwick College, past Program Chairman-New York Society of Security Analysts, Adviser to National Association of Security Dealers, Lecturer for Junior High and High Schools and civic groups on his US Air Force P.O.W. Camp experience.
He was the author of

Family members include his son, John W. Smallwood, III Of Co, his grandson Taylor Smallwood, great grandson, Joel.
He was predeceased by his children, Peter, Nancy and Robert Smallwood.
Services will be held at Riverwoods of Exeter, Tuesday, October 13 at 2 PM.
Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Norwich, VT. Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter, NH.
