John Hubert Muller







John Hubert Muller, 90, of Stratham, NH, died peacefully at days end in Rye, NH on October 30, 2016.

Son of the late Robert Otto and Olga Erbsloh Muller, he is survived by his sister Eva Muller Smith, his children Mary Klee Muller, Emily Muller, Louise Ruth Muller and grandchildren, Christopher and James.

John is preceded in death by his wife, Margery Morse Muller, and half-brothers Erhart Muller and Robert Muller and sister Monica Muller.

A veteran, John served as Electronic Technician in the United States Navy servicing radar and radios on board various vessels during the World War II.

While getting his PhD at Michigan State University, he taught Physics and later he taught at Clark University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He participated in research and development of liquid crystals and other important scientific advancements. John was a lifelong advocate for the improvement of education by serving on committees to improve citizenship education and serving on boards of youth orchestras.

He was a true renaissance man. During his life time he was an amateur radio operator in his graduate school years, built a high fidelity stereo receiver, performed in ice skating shows, took clarinet lessons, and sang tenor in many classical music choruses from his college years into his 70’s. John also enjoyed navigation, sailing, and cabinet making. As a Rotarian committed to making his community and world a better place, John focused his participation on Rotarian Scholarship activities in the local community. Passionate about learning, John was continually acquiring knowledge about physics, mathematics, astrophysics, anthropology and more.

A memorial gathering and celebration of life for John will be held in the spring of 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the scholarship fund for student education to Exeter Rotary Club Foundation, PO Box 861, Exeter, NH 03833. Donation information: 808-382-7584.
