Margery M. Muller
STRATHAM - Margery M. Muller, 85, of Stratham died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Exeter Hospital.
She was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late George P. and Ruth M. (Stelling) Morse.
Mrs. Muller was a graduate of Adelphi Academy in New York, attended high school at the Berkeley Institute in Brooklyn, and received her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University. She was an illustrator for scientific papers at Brookhaven National Laboratories. Later she attended Michigan State University, where she studied art.
Music was her passion in life, from voice lessons when she was young to becoming an accomplished cello player.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, John H. Muller of Stratham; her daughters, Mary K. Muller of Connecticut, Emily Muller of New Jersey and Louise R. Muller of Connecticut; her grandsons, Christopher M. Laycock and James A. Laycock; and her sister, Elizabeth M. Atwood of New York.
WE REMEMBER: While living in Alexandria, Va., she was involved in starting the Mount Vernon Orchestra, which has grown to become the Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic and still performs at the Kennedy Center to this day. Many of her cello students excelled through her outstanding teaching. After moving to Stratham, she was involved in starting the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra and was the principal cellist there for several years.
Through her love of dogs, she became very involved in the training and showing of her poodles, which won several awards. She also was a talented painter in oils and acrylics, and many of her paintings were shown in the Exeter Town Offices building.
SERVICES: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, Tuesday, Oct. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. in the Stockbridge Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Maple Lane Cemetery in Stratham.
