David Cook Wilby
David Cook Wilby of Kingston, NH, passed away the morning of October 10th, 2013, at the age of 61, in the comfort of his home and surrounded by family. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in August of 2012 and underwent treatment until September of 2013.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, to Carlton and Miriam (Cook) Wilby of Haddonfield, NJ, Dave was the youngest of three sons. He grew up in Haddonfield, attending Haddonfield Memorial High School. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, and later obtained a Master of Arts in New Testament Studies from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, MA.
Dave worked as a contractor building many custom homes throughout southern New Hampshire, including what would eventually be his own family home in Kingston. He also served as building inspector for the town of Newton. He was employed by Wal-Mart / Logistics Division for the past sixteen years, but his passion was teaching and tutoring mathematics. Whether in the GED classroom or tutoring individual students, he was able to share his love of learning as well as his knowledge of math.
Dave enjoyed reading, singing and playing guitar. He was an avid outdoorsman who went canoeing, sailing, hiking and biking. He and his wife Lynne regularly shared these activities and especially enjoyed their annual camping trip to Acadia National Park.
This loving husband and devoted father also cherished time with family, attending small get-togethers and larger reunions with immediate and extended family all over the country.
Active in the church community throughout his life, he gave of himself fully wherever he went. He was a beacon of light to all who knew and loved him. His smile and infectious laugh will always be remembered. Dave Wilby touched the hearts and minds of many and left the lives he influenced better than he found them. He will be deeply missed.
Family members include his wife of 22 years Lynne (Campagna/Ireson) Wilby, daughter Jen Leigh Wilby, stepsons Joshua Ireson and Nathan Ireson and his wife Tiffany, brothers Charles Wilby and his wife Robin, Robert Wilby and his wife Susan, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his nephew Bradford Wilby.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19th at 2:00 pm at Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 197 Middle Rd. Brentwood, NH.
