Edna R. Wardwell
Brentwood – Edna R. Wardwell, 100, died peacefully at the Rockingham Nursing Home on Friday, December 11, 2009 with her husband of 77 years by her side.
Born August 22, 1909 in West Paris, ME she was the daughter of Bernard M. and Maude E. (Stanley) Richardson. She attended West Paris schools and went to the Gorham Normal School to become a teacher.
Mrs. Wardwell taught school in Maine as well as in Kingston and Exeter.
In addition to her loving husband, Cyrus, family members include her two daughters, Carolyn Dow, and her husband, Robert, of Portsmouth and Annette Carter, and her husband, Dudley of Stratham; one son, Gordon Wardwell, and his wife, Judy, of White Pine, TN; 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joan Wiggin Clement and two grandchildren, Shelly Rugg and Duncan Carter.
We remember her wonderful smile, sense of humor, and the pleasure she got from helping others. She and her husband traveled extensively, visiting every state except Alaska and had also traveled to the British Isles and Europe. They lived in Buckfield, ME moving to Kensington, NH in 1946 where they lived for many years. After retirement, they wintered in Apache Junction and Escondido, CA.
She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
