Barbara Claire Valade
Barbara Claire Valade died on Friday after a courageous and determined two-year battle with uterine cancer. She passed resting comfortably at home surrounded by loving family.
Born on January 28, 1944 to Claire (nee Dionne) and Richard E. Williams Jr. in Winchendon, MA. She graduated from Our Lady of Monadnock Academy in Jafirey, NH and also graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Boston, MA.
She married Peter K. Valade also from Winchendon, MA. They lived in Baltimore, MD, Crescent City, CA, Urbana, IL, Honolulu, HI, Dale City, VA, Cape Cod, MA, Denham, England, Springfield, VA, and settled in Exeter, NH.
She held nursing positions at several locations though out the time, from helping infants to caring for elderly, most notably a parish nurse at St. Michaels Parish. She was a member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Barbara was a Catholic woman.
She had a grand time watching her granddaughters. She enjoyed cross-stitching, needlepoint, knitting, lamp shading, cake decorating, crocheting, being a den mother, being a CCD Coordinator, Cursillos and gardening. She had a knack for driving.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Peter of Exeter, NH. She is also survived by her sons, Mark Valade, of Portsmouth, NH; Chris Valade, his wife Sarah and daughter Dylan, of Nottingham, NH; Eric Valade, his wife Sherry and daughter Madison, of Raymond, NH. Surviving relatives include brothers Dr. Thomas and wife Veronica Williams, Timothy Williams, Richard Williams, sister Joanne Williams, brother-in-law Jerry Valade, sister-in-law Ellen Valade and many nieces and nephews.
A brother-in-law Albert Valade of Acton, MA predeceased Barbara.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family Friday from 5-8 PM at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Michael Church Building Fund, 9 Lincoln Street, Exeter, NH 03833.
