Bernice R. Turner
Newton - Bernice R. Turner, 92, of Newton formerly of Fremont died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born November 3, 1921 in Fremont NH the daughter of the late Forest E. and Flora(Brown) Rand.
Bernice was a graduate of Sanborn Seminary and lived most of her life in
Fremont. She was active in Peoples United Methodist Church and a member of the Fremont Grange. Her family was her life.
She worked for the Former Spaulding and Frost Cooperage. She was a supervisor of the Ellis School Lunch program. She was a postal clerk and a letter carrier for the Fremont Post Office until retirement. During WWII she bravely ventured via train to New York City to demonstrate how to make pie crust and pastry from scratch in a national department store. This skill she taught to her daughters and grandchildren which became a family tradition.
She was a true cancer survivor, having been diagnosed with melanoma in 1972 and beating her prognosis by several decades.
She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Walter R. Turner Jr.
Family members include: her daughters, Jane LaBelle (Raymond), Judy Strom (David) and Joan McCarthy (Barry); her Grandchildren, Michelle (Ken), Michael (Karen), Joshua, Andrew (Colleen),Jason (Meredith), and Christopher (Jessica) 9 Great Grandchildren and expecting the 10th. Former son in law, George Shattuck and adopted family, David Robinson.
Services will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 3 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family from 2 PM until the hour of the service. Spring burial will be in the Village Cemetery, Fremont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fremont Police and Fire Department or the Peoples United Methodist Church, Fremont.
