Dean J. Thorp, Jr.
Epping, NH – Dean J. Thorp, Jr., 86, of Epping formerly of Exeter, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Exeter Hospital.
Mr. Thorp was born in Exeter, October 6, 1926 the son of the late Dean J. and Elsie (Baker) Thorp.
Dean spent most of his life in Exeter before recently moving to Epping. He was a graduate of Exeter High School with the Class of 1944. He proudly served our nation in the United States Navy during WWII participating in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatre. Mr. Thorp worked as a Compositor Foreman for the Exeter Newsletter for 45 years before retiring in 1991.
Mr. Thorp was a member of the Lions Club where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones award, as well as a member of the American Legion Pingree-Moss-Chatigny Post 32 of Exeter. Dean loved tinkering around the house and yard and enjoyed being active within the community.
Family members include his wife of 63 years Dorothy (Miron) Thorp of Exeter; sons, David M. Thorp and wife Deborah of Rochester, Douglas M. Thorp of Epping; son-in-law Harry Sawyer of Fairfax Station, VA; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his daughter Donna Sawyer.
Visiting hours will be from 11 AM - 2 PM on Saturday, February 9, 2013 in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Services will follow the visitation, starting at 2 PM in the funeral home. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, 53 Lincoln Street, Exeter, New Hampshire.
