George Sturgis








George A. Sturgis Vero Beach, FL. George A. Sturgis, 67 of Sebastian, FL formerly of Exeter, NH died peacefully surrounded by his family January 1, 2017 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, FL.

He was born July 2, 1949 in Exeter, NH the son of the late William Coleman Sturgis and Georgette (Fourtin) Sturgis.

George worked and lived in Exeter for 45 years. He was a firefighter for the Exeter Fire Department for 25 years, worked for the Public Works Department for 20 years. He wore many hats in life, Arson investigator, safety officer, police officer in New Castle and North Hampton, and Newington, Rockingham Sheriff’s Department, Trustee for Swasey Parkway, striping business, music and hobby shop, and his final love (Because he loved his ice cream ) owner of Flip Flop ice cream shop in Florida.

He enjoyed his Harley and made many lifelong friends while riding the roads. He looked forward everyday to daily coffee with "the guys”. He enjoyed his retirement at their camp on Ossipee Lake at Totem pole sitting on the porch with his buddies and sitting around the campfire with many loved friends.

Family members include his wife Diane Sturgis, his three sons, Tim Sturgis, John Sturgis and Tom Sturgis, his brothers, William Sturgis and Dana Sturgis, 2 step children Nicole and Joanne Dupre of Exeter, 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A meaningful life is not being rich, high educated or being perfect...its about being real, humble and strong and being able to share ourselves and touch the lives of others. George touched so many in so many ways. He will be missed.

Services will be held at the Exeter Town Hall, Front Street, Exeter, Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be Thursday, Janaury 12, 2017 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Exeter Fire Department Relief Association, 20 Bow Street, Exeter, NH 03833. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery.
