Anthony C. Scianna
"Tony"
NOTTINGHAM-- Anthony C. “Tony” Scianna , 74, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Tony was born July 16, 1942 son of Anthony J. and Lena Scianna. He grew up and resided in Trumbull, CT for many years before moving to Florida and then finally setting in New Hampshire with his family where he spent the last 37 years calling it home.
Tony began his career as an engineer with Pratt and Whitney in Connecticut. He later moved to join General Electric in Lynn, MA where he worked tirelessly for over 23 years to later retire in 2002. It was upon retirement that he was able to have time to volunteer, travel and spend lots of quality memory making time with his family and friends.
In 1965 Tony married his wife of 51 years Louise (Jacques) and they went on to have many wonderful experiences together. Tony valued family above all else and would do anything for his children and his wife. Being raised as a strict Catholic in an Italian family, Tony was an individual who valued morals! He wouldn’t so much as “borrow” a pen from work. It was this moral code that provided him with the compass that guided his life. During retirement this compass also led him to become a member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteer for the Rockingham VNA Hospice and at the Rockingham Nursing Home assisting with mass run by St. Joseph’s Church.
Tony was an avid huntsman and fisherman throughout his life and always extremely competitive. He held the fish weight record amongst his family of fishermen at a whopping 7½ pounds. His record still stands today! He also had a love of target shooting and was a member of the Chester Rod and Gun Club. In 1982 his competitive nature drove him to earn the title of NH state champion in silhouette shooting. Tony had many hobbies and loves throughout the years which largely included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling the United States visiting over 18 National Parks with his wife Louise and spending time at church with his St. Joseph’s Parish family.
A perfect day in the life of Tony would have been spent picnicking at his favorite spot; Great Island Common in New Castle, New Hampshire. Anyone knowing Tony personally knew he told a great story, was full of wisdom, and had a sarcastic and witty sense of humor. There was no doubt even until the end that Tony enjoyed his food, especially dessert! The special sound he made as he inhaled in pure joy at the site of good food will never be forgotten.
Tony is survived by his wife Louise (Jacques) and their two children, Christy Masciarelli and her husband David of Hooksett, and Anthony M. Scianna of Manchester; two grandchildren, Andrea Masciarelli and Lucas Masciarelli of Hooksett; four siblings, Richard Scianna and his wife Debbie of Oxford, CT, Lucille Vecchiarelli and her husband Peter of Bridgeport, CT, Joseph Scianna of Bridger, MT, and Mary Lisi and her husband Albert of Monroe, CT; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Lena, and his brother Frank Scianna and sister Anne Marie Lagor.
