Maurice J. (Moe) Proulx



Brentwood- Maurice J. (Moe) Proulx passed away Tuesday May 25, 2010 with his family by his side.

He was born May 29, 1926 in Exeter NH the son of the late Joseph A. and Helen L. (Filion) Proulx.

Moe was raised in Newmarket NH and was a graduate of Newmarket High School, Class of 1943. He attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham after WWII.

Maurice joined the United States Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Block Island as a Machinist Mate during WWII. During the 1950’s Mr. Proulx worked as a professional umpire traveling throughout the country.

In 1949 Maurice married the former M. Jacqueline (Jackie) Bernier.  They shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage together enjoying travel, their family, and their wide circle of friends. Moe and Jackie wintered in Florida for many years where they enjoyed playing golf and tennis. With their children they enjoyed many memorable vacations camping and sharing an appreciation for the outdoors. Moe shared his love of all of the Boston sports teams with his family.

Maurice was the founder and Chairman of the Board of Proulx Oil and Propane, which remains a family owned business today. He worked for over 65 years in the heating industry in every facet of the business. Moe was a member of St. Joseph Church in Epping and was a member of the Exeter Knights of Columbus Council #2179 as a 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of the American Legion Post #67 of Newmarket. He coached numerous youth sports teams, was a past president of the Exeter Bluehawk Boosters club, was active in the Exeter Rotary Club, and was a generous supporter of numerous community and charitable organizations throughout the area during his business career.

Family members include six sons, Andre M. Proulx and his wife Marilyn of Fort Myers, FL, Thomas J. Proulx and his wife Mary Jane of Dover, NH, Victor J. Proulx and his wife Kathryn of Windsor CT, John P. Proulx of Exeter NH, James D. Proulx and his wife Lisa of Stratham NH, Dennis P. Proulx of West Rutland VT, one daughter Michelle V. Proulx of Exeter NH, one brother, Roger J. Proulx and his wife Noella of Pompano Beach, FL, one sister, Loretta Sibson and her husband James of Sandwich MA, 10 grandchildren Joseph Proulx, Jason Proulx, Matthew Proulx, Daniel Proulx, Camille Proulx, Melissa Proulx, Christopher Proulx, Gregory Proulx, Nicole Bouchard, and Emily Bouchard. 

A son, Charles V. Proulx, and a granddaughter, Kathryn M. Proulx, predeceased Mr. Proulx.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday May 29th 2010 at St. Josephs Church, Route 27, Epping NH at 1pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter on Friday May 28, 2010 from 4-8pm. Burial will be in St. Josephs Cemetery, Epping.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Josephs Church, Rt.27, Epping NH 03042 or to the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, PO Box 302, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0302 which was a lifelong charity Moe supported.
