Estelle M. Proulx









Exeter – Estelle M. Proulx, 101, of Exeter died Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Center at Exeter.

She was born in Epping, NH January 16, 1913 the daughter of the late Joseph and Virginia Proulx.

Estelle was educated by the sisters of St. Anne in Canada where her sister, Sr. Marie Louise Proulx taught. She was a graduate of St. Ann’s Academy in Marlboro, MA the class of 1931.

In the 1930’s she was the substitute organist for St. Joseph’s Church and owned and operated Estelle’s Variety Shoppe in Epping, closing the shoppe in 1941. After closing her shoppe, she moved to Hartford, CT working as a buyer for large department stores and then as a governess for children of wealthy families teaching them piano and French. Estelle became a private nurse’s aide until moving back to Epping in 1970 to care for her mother, following her mother’s death she moved to Exeter and went into the Antique Business buying and selling.

She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed theatre, sports, photography, collecting records and cookbooks and playing the piano.

Family members include her niece, Marguerite Vallone of Epping and many great nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at S. Michael’s Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter, Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Epping.
