Dr. Florence Lehman Nichols
FREMONT—Dr. Florence Lehman Nichols, 83, passed away on January 15, 2013 surrounded by loving family and friends, after a brief illness.
Florence grew up in Seagate, NY, and attended New York University and Cornell University. She was one of the first women to earn a PH.D. in Psychology from Boston University. She initially specialized in child psychology, later expanding her psychotherapy work to include adolescents, adults, and the elderly. She practiced professionally with her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, David C. Nichols, in Brookline, MA, Intervale NH, and most recently in Exeter.
Florence was known for her warm and generous heart and her great sense of fun. She was also much admired for her remarkable courage after suffering a serious spinal cord injury in 2005.
A cherished member of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Exeter, she leaves, in addition to her husband David, her loving children, James Sultan, Sonia Sultan, and Eric Nichols, stepdaughter Lisa Nichols, and grandchildren Gabriel Sultan, Jasmine Sultan Baker, Kaia Hinton, Jesse Sultan, and Alexis Walters.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 pm on January 20 at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Exeter, 12 Elm St, Exeter. Donations to FUUSE are requested in lieu of flowers.
