Willene M. Miller


Exeter – Willene M. Miller, 92, died peacefully Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Ridge at RiverWoods surrounded by her family.

She was born October 8, 1918 in DeWitt, AR to the late William C. and Marie C. (Davis) Mason.

She graduated with honors as the salutatorian of her high school class and attended the Draughon Business College in Memphis, TN in 1937, earning a secretarial diploma.  Following college she worked at Sears & Roebuck  Co. and then the Lawrence Furniture Company where she met her husband.

Willene married John Knox Miller and moved to Northport, Long Island, NY where they raised their two daughters.  In 1970 they moved to Atlantis, FL.  After the death of her husband she moved to RiverWoods in Exeter in 2006.  Willene was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and many crafts.  She had been an active member in the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Worth, FL.  She was a loving mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family and whom will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia and husband John Gavin of Newburyport, MA and Ann and husband James Polizzo of Eliot, ME; two grandchildren, Christy Stuart of Eliot, ME and Jeffrey Polizzo of Portsmouth; two great-grandsons, Mason Stuart and Lucas Polizzo; and her sister, Maye Carmany of Mechanicsburg, PA.

She was predeceased by sisters, Renee Minich and Billie Marie Eichler.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, September 2 in the Ridge living room at Riverwoods, 6 White Oak Dr., Exeter. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Willene’s name to the Macular Degeneration Foundation, Inc., PO Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053, 888-633-3937, www.eyesight.org. Assistance with arrangements was by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
