Nancy Weare Merriman


EXETER — Nancy Weare Merriman, 80, of The Ridge at RiverWoods, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011.

The wife of the late Robert E. Merriman and daughter of the late John C. and Ann M. (Schultes) Weare, she was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Great Neck, N.Y.

Mrs. Merriman was a direct descendant of Meshech Weare, the first Colonial governor of New Hampshire. She was raised in Great Neck, N.Y., and graduated from Great Neck High School and Colby College. For most of her life, she resided in Westbury, NY.

She enjoyed playing violin in the Hicksville community orchestra and was an avid bridge and tennis player.

Mrs. Merriman and her family spent summers in Seabrook. In 1994, she and her husband retired to Rye.

She is survived by her four daughters, Carol Schwanhausser, Sue Synodis, Cathy Cygan and Diane Shenberger, and seven grandchildren, Stephen Schwanhausser, Lori Schwanhausser, Mike Synodis, Jack Cygan, Annie Cygan, Elyse Shenberger and Nick Shenberger.

SERVICES: A celebration of her life will be held Nov 5 at noon at the Ridge Room at RiverWoods, 6 White Oak Dr., Exeter. A light lunch reception will follow the service. Nancy and Robert Merriman will be buried together at Elmwood Cemetery in Seabrook following the reception. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the RiverWoods Staff Appreciation Fund, RiverWoods, 7 RiverWoods Dr., Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
