Melanie Kay McNamara

Melanie always knew from a young age that she wanted to help people. She did this in many ways throughout her life, including her career as a nurse after she graduated from St. Patrick’s Nursing School in Missoula, Montana in 1971. From there, she proudly served as a nurse in the United States Navy, living all over the U.S. and serving abroad in Iwakuni, Japan. She retired from the Navy as a Commander in 2000.

After she retired, Melanie continued to serve her community in Exeter through many avenues: substitute school nurse, one-on-one nurse for students with medical conditions, and pastoral minister at St. Michael’s Parish. She truly loved and cared for every student, parent, and community member.

Her most important role in helping people was her responsibility to help her husband raise a beautiful family. Every day she committed herself to the love of her husband and children: whether it be waking up with Kevin, an airline pilot, at 2 am to make him tea before he left for a 3-day trip, or staying up until midnight to proofread one of her kids’ school papers.

She will be forever missed by her family and friends, but we will never forget her spontaneous outbursts into song, her love of hummingbirds, her performances on the nose flute, and helping her solve the world’s problems over a good cup of tea.

Melanie’s unwavering faith in the Lord guided her through her life and gave her joy knowing she would be united with Christ one day. She now knows the real truth and peace that lies in God’s grace. Her family’s prayers have been answered knowing that she is with her Lord Jesus in Heaven.

Melanie is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Kevin McNamara; her children, Sean Kaubisch and his wife Clarissa, Mary McNamara, Meghan Elliott and her husband Josh, Kevin McNamara, and Kerry Auld and her husband Kyle; her grandchildren, Breanna, Brian, Grace, Sophia, Avanlea, and Alexander. Melanie is also survived by her brother, Gary Glover; and her sister, Vickie Smith. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, August 21 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home at 141 Epping Road, Exeter. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 22 at St. Michael Parish, 9 Lincoln Street, Exeter. Melanie would like this celebration to reflect her appreciation of the beauty of life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Exeter, PO Box 176, Exeter, NH 03833, where Melanie was actively involved for many years.
