William L. Marks







William L. Marks, CAPT USN (Ret), died in Exeter, New Hampshire, on April 5, 2016.

He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on August 22, 1943, to William and Leona Marks. He was educated in Altoona and Flint, Michigan, and was a graduate of Iowa State University and the US Naval Postgraduate School.

He served in the US Navy from 1960 to 1991, in submarines, deep submersibles, and in surface ships, where he held command. He completed his Naval career as the Technical Director of SOSMRC. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a man of great intelligence, integrity, loyalty, and compassion. He brought out the best in everyone he met.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela; daughters Kathy (Daniel) Voth of Colorado and Dolly Marks-Mazonowicz of Cornwall, England; grandchildren Max (Michelle) Voth and Molly Voth of Colorado; his sister, Norma Ross of Michigan; his brothers Stephen (Ann) Marks of Michigan and David (Elizabeth) Marks of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Lance Mazonowicz.

He will be buried at sea in the Pacific with full military honors. A celebration of his life will be held in the summer. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
