Christopher S. Kelsall
Christopher Shane Kelsall passed away at Exeter Hospital on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.
Chris was born in Wilmington, DE on August 17, 1970 and at a young age he moved to New Hampshire with his mother and father where they resided in Exeter. He attended Exeter High School and with his adventurous spirit at the age of 16 he decided to move to California. After living in California at the age of 18 he moved to Maryland and ending back in New Hampshire when he was 24. Collecting many friends along his way that he held dear to his heart.
In his early 20’s Chris taught himself how to play the guitar and played quite beautifully. He enjoyed learning many songs from bands like Metallica and Pink Floyd. Later in life Chris took great pride in his martial arts training in the ancient Bujinkan & Takamatsuden Warrior Traditions with the Bujinkan Savage Dojo and greatly enjoyed attending the annual NEWC (New England Warrior Camp) each fall. A great friend to Chris whom he trained with described him as, “being a great partner who because of his feedback and generosity in training it made you and him better.” Chris also loved to talk! Anyone who had a conversation with Chris learned something new before they left him. He loved to sit and talk exchanging life stories with anyone he met. It was that affection that brought so many life long friendships into Chris’s life.
Chris has two sons Reidar and Nathan along with four stepchildren Lizy, Melissa, Dan, and Jessica whom he loves very much. Chris had an audacious personality that transcended into how he parented. He was the type of father that would take his children to do fire walks (feet and toes safe and sound), teach them to play the guitar, go fishing, go tubing, to shoot a bow, to climb trees, how to build fires, and get wild animals to eat from your hands.
He enjoyed working for many years as an HVAC technician. When he then decided to start his own business in the HVAC industry that he was very successful with. Chris decided to step away from owning his business after he was diagnosed with brain cancer to focus his energy on getting well. In 2012 he embarked on a radical change of lifestyle, casting aside the traditional way of living and spending the next several years living simply “off the grid” depending only on himself for survival, challenging and developing his inner strength which was an important factor in his ability to fight this monumental battle. In 2016 almost 10 years later Chris finished his fight and although at times he may have been rightfully tired…it never once diminished his determination or ever broke his warrior spirit.
Chris is predeceased by his mother Rosemary Armetta.
Chris is survived by his wife Christine (Warren), his children Reidar and Nathan Kelsall, his step children Lizy, Melissa, Dan, and Jessica Hapgood, his step-granddaughter Annalise Bursey, his sister Nicole Cullinan, his nieces Grace and Meghan Cullinan, his father Robert Kelsall, his Grandmother Dorthy Kelsall, and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends whom all loved him very much.
Gone far to soon. He will be greatly missed.
A special thank you to the nurses at Exeter Hospital in 4 West who cared for Chris. What an amazing and kind group. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 5-7 PM. Burial will be private.
