Lt. Col. (Ret.)
Edward H. Josephson
With his famiy at his side Edward H. Josephson "slipped the surly bonds of earth" at Massachusetts General Hospital on Sept. 4, 2016 to join his daughter Karen Baker who predeceased him on Dec. 22, 2014. Ed had, as described to us a "big huge " stroke on Aug 31. He was air-lifted (Dust offed) from Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, NH to Mass General.
Ed was born February 21, 1938 in Syracuse, NY to Edward Josephson and Kathleen Beatrice (Morgan). The family soon returned to Concord, NH. Growing up in Concord he enjoyed hunting and fishing, his paper route, visiting frequently the NH Historical Building and being in the Civil Air Patrol, which nourished his love of flight.
During his senior year at Concord HS, he learned of the new US Air Force Academy, which would be accepting candidates for the first class. Ed wrote a letter to newly elected Congressman Perkins Bass and during Christmas vacation received a return letter stating he had been appointed.
While flying transport planes for the USAF he visited all fifty states and even more countries and all continents
After his AF career Ed joined AVCO which became Textron Systems Division. After doing many jobs and titles he became V.P. Ombudsman, a term and job he thoroughly enjoyed.
Ed has been a strong and busy advocate for many veteran groups in the state. Also the USAFA has been an important part of his life. The Honor Code he believed to be most important.
He leaves his wife Judith (Judy Coates from Tampa, FL) of 53 years, son Edward Andrew from Charleston, SC and granddaughter Monica Louise Josephson of Bayreuth, Germany, now living in Bucksport, ME . His brother Michael A. Josephson from Webster, NH and many nieces, nephews, and cousins
