Leo P. Jauron

Leo Paul Jauron, 92, passed away peacefully at Kirkwood Comers in Lee, NH with members of his loving family by his side, on Saturday, April 23, 2011, after a period of failing health.

He was born in Nashua on September 28, 1918 to the late Pio and Inez (Wilkins) Jauron. Paul called Nashua his home for 90 years, until his health declined, when it became necessary for him to move to his nephew's in Stratham for care. He attended Nashua schools, graduating from Nashua Senior High in 1937. He then worked in the International Shoe Company until early 1940, when he enlisted in the Army. After basic training, Paul served first as a medic in the 18th Field Surgical Hospital and then as command sergeant major to both General Patton and General Eisenhower in Europe during World War II. Post WWII, he was assigned to the American Embassy in Moscow to work with the ambassador for three years. When NATO was newly formed, Paul continued to serve as command sergeant major to NATO's supreme commander General Eisenhower at NATO headquarters outside of Paris. From 1954-1957, Paul was assigned to serve as a military advisor to King Frederick IX of Denmark, an assignment he said "made me feel good" because it was an easy one. During his times of leave, he traveled extensively in Europe; his favorite trips were to the Black Forest of Germany and to the Vatican. Returning to the US after completing his assignment in Denmark, he was assigned to Fort Devens for two years, then Fort Meade, where he completed his twenty three year military career, retiring in 1963. As a civilian at home in Nashua, Paul worked at several jobs including as a claims agent for Blue Line Express to an assistant at the Davis Funeral Home. From his 70's to his mid 80's, he volunteered at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, cheering countless patients and fellow volunteers with his wonderful sense of humor. A communicant and active member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Paul served his church as an acolyte advisor and was appointed verger. Paul will be lovingly remembered as a humanitarian who proudly served his country, his church and his community.

Paul is survived by two sisters, Myrtle Latvis of Lee, NH and Elaine Dionne of Waterford, CT; three nephews, Michael Latvis of Stratham, NH, David Latvis of LaGrangeville, NY, and Charles Dionne of Brooklyn, CT; four nieces, Patricia Dionne, Linda Dionne, Ellyn Heidler and Yvette Dionne, all of CT; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. He was predeceased by five sisters and two brothers of Nashua and a nephew, Richard Dionne of CT.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14th at 1 :30 pm at the Church of the Good Shepherd. 214 Main St. in Nashua., NH, followed by a military ceremony and committal at the Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua, NH.
