James W. Jackson
North Hampton – James W. Jackson, 86, of North Hampton died Friday, August 12, 2016 at his home with his sons by his side.
He was born April 9, 1930 in Newburyport, MA the son of the late James R. and Grace G. (Coffee) Jackson.
Mr. Jackson lived most of his life in Exeter and North Hampton. He served his country in the US Navy on the subtender USS Howard S Gilmore as Engineman Second Class, and was honorably discharged April 1955. He founded JW Jackson Excavators in 1956 and later partnered with his son James who still operates the business. He enjoyed his motorcycles in the early fifties and moved on to old construction equipment and trucks, and belonged to the New England Rockbusters. He was talented in the fabrication and repair of the old equipment and truly enjoyed it as much as he enjoyed operating the old equipment, all part of his business. His sons are grateful for the knowledge and skills that he passed on to them.
He was the husband of the late Nancy (Horne) Jackson.
Family members include his sons, James W. Jackson, Jr. and David “Bucko” Jackson, his sister, Geraldine Gaudet. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter, Wednesday at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Burial will be in the Exeter Cemetery.
