Derek J. Hoyt
Newfields – Derek J. Hoyt, 17, died at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.
He was born October 22, 1998 in Portsmouth, NH the son of Jeffrey L. and Mary J. (Shapleigh) Hoyt.
Derek was a Junior at the Exeter High School. He was president of the school cribbage club, a member of the youth bowling league in Portsmouth, was a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Lincoln and regional champion of the pinewood derby in Cub Scouts. Derek was a big NASCAR fan and recently met Dale Earnhardt Jr. on his Make-A-Wish trip to the Daytona 500. He was an avid Boston Sports fan - Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots.
In addition to his parents, family members include his sister, Ashley E. Hoyt, his paternal grandparents, Ralph J. and Verna L. Hoyt, his maternal grandmother, Katherine C. French, and maternal grandfather Frederick A. Shapleigh Jr. (deceased). Derek is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, Thursday May 5, 2016 at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may also visit with the family at the funeral home, Wednesday, May 4, 2016 from 6-8 PM. Family flowers only. Donations in Derek’s memory may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation, NH or YMCA Camp Lincoln, Kingston NH or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN. A family burial will take place in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot, ME at a future date.
