Major General Robert S. Holmes,
US Army, (Ret.)
Stratham – Major General Robert S. Holmes, US Army (Ret.) of Stratham died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He graduated with honors from Norwich University with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering and later graduated from the Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
He was the commanding General of the 91st Infantry Division in Fort Baker, CA and was instrumental in the west coast Vietnam baby lift after the fall of Saigon.
Family members include his wife Madelyn of Stratham, daughter Cynthia of San Francisco, CA, son Scott of New York, NY, sister-in-law Barbara Struckmeyer of Wellesley Hills, MA, nephew Charles and his wife Diane Struckmeyer of Vienna, VA, niece Carol Walsh and her husband Richard of Bedford, NH, and niece Nancy George and her husband Anthony of Medway, MA.
Services will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH on Monday, June 15, 2009 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the West View Cemetery, Lexington, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the National Alzheimer’s Association, 1 Bedford Drive, Ste. 105, Bedford, NH 03110.
