Elizabeth 'Betty' Higgins

Elizabeth 'Betty' Higgins, 76, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.

Betty was born on November 18th, 1933 in Newton, MA, daughter of the late John I. and Ann G. (Chapman) McCree.

Betty lived most of her life in Acton, MA. As a busy mother of 5 children, James, David, Stephen, Kenneth and Susan, she was a parent coordinator for youth hockey, a Cub Scout leader, and an accomplished knitter and seamstress. One of her greatest achievements was being a driver for handicapped and special needs children. Betty went above and beyond the call of duty to make these children feel important and loved. She was able to provide joy and guidance simultaneously, with the goal of always providing them with a sense of dignity.

In later years, Betty settled in Exeter, NH and was very active at the Exeter Senior Center. Most important to Betty was the health and well being of her 5 children, 14 grand children and 2 great grand children. Betty had a way of making all of us laugh using her sense of humor, her love of dressing up in costume and her love of celebrating the holidays.

In her final years, she became a resident of Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood, NH. Although Betty liked her independence, she was pleased to have the safety net of the Rockingham staff watching over her and once again made some good friends.

Everyone loved Betty. She died peacefully with the wonderful and comforting care of SolAmor Hospice and the Rockingham County Nursing staff. We are all so very grateful to Betty for her love, humor, and care that she offered each and every one of us.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's name to St. Vincent de Paul Society and mailed to:
