Eugene F. Haight
Eugene F. Haight, 89, of Exeter, NH passed away on June 29th, at the Exeter Hospital.
He was born January 5,1925 in Nashua, NH a son of the late Eugene Guy and Cora (Longa) Haight. After living in Nashua, and then in Kingston, NH for many years, Eugene moved to Exeter in 1971.
Eugene was a veteran of the United State Army having served in World War II (1943-1945 )as a Combat Engineer and an infantryman. He served in the European Theater of Operations and took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy amphibious landings on Omaha Beach. Eugene also served in the Army National Guard.
Eugene graduated from the McGaw Normal Institute in Reeds Ferry (Merrimack), NH class of 1946. Eugene attended the University of New Hampshire and Keene State College receiving his degree in Education. He was an educator for 25 years. He taught grade school in Nashua before becoming the Principal of the Bakie School in Kingston. He was also Principal of the Greenland, NH Elementary School and the Newfields, NH Elementary School before he retired from teaching in 1975. Eugene then worked at the US Post Office in Exeter until his retirement in 1991.
Eugene is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Faythe, Brothers Charles and Robert, and Sister Leora. Eugene is survived by his four children Sally of Exeter, Dean of Deerfield, Kendra of Shirley, MA, and Scott of Exeter, his Sister Charlotte of Merrimack, NH, his four Grandchildren Tammi, Christopher, Arcadia, and Carter, and his four Great Grandchildren Tyler, Ashley, Aaron, and Connor.
Eugene was a dedicated and loving husband and father. His interests included fishing, cooking, reading, and music. Eugene was a 50+ year member of the Masons belonging to both Gideon Lodge in Kingston and Star Of The East #59 in Exeter. Unbeknownst to the residents of Kingston, and his own children, it was Eugene dressed as Santa Claus riding in the fire truck every Christmas Eve, waving to the kids, from the late 1950s up to the time he moved to Exeter.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 2nd from 5-7 PM at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping, Road, Exeter. Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 3rd at 10 AM at the Greenwood Cemetery, North Road, Kingston, for family and close friends.
