Kenneth F. Hadley

Newfields, NH and Newburyport, MA -

With great sadness, we say goodbye to Kenneth F. Hadley, 24, the love of our life who died at his parent’s home on October 7, 2017 after a courageous battle with ALS. Born at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA on November 9th, 1992, he was six weeks premature.

At 10 weeks old, Kenny was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia and at 15 months old, had a liver transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital. He was their second living-related transplant patient at the time. His mother, Nancy, was the donor.

He attended Newfields Elementary School and graduated from Exeter High School in 2011. He went on to Keene State College, majoring in Communications and a minor in Theater, graduating in 2015.

Kenny was a very happy, outgoing, loving and thoughtful young man with a great sense of humor who touched so many lives with his positivity and caring attitude.

Kenny loved to travel. On his 13th birthday his parents took him to Disney in Orlando, FL and there he saw his first Cirque Du Soleil show. He was hooked and developed a passion that fueled his creativity. He attended over 30 shows all over the country and Canada collecting all the memorabilia he could find. In June 2014, he took a summer job in Boston at one of their traveling shows, “Amaluna”. Some would say he had a mini Cirque Du Soleil museum in his bedroom at his parent’s house.

After college, Kenny worked for a while in retail at Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostale and Sketchers. It was then that he met his life partner, Jason.

Eventually, Kenny found his true calling in healthcare working at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as a Unit Coordinator in the PACU. He made many friends in a very short time. Unfortunately, after only 10 months he had to stop working due to declining health that left him with his ALS diagnosis.

Kenny showed no bitterness to this. He asked everyone around him to stay upbeat. He struggled and fought the good fight and was an inspiration to all.

Kenny loved Las Vegas best of all. He recently went for a week- long trip accompanied by his loving and caring partner and aunt. Their time was spent at Cirque shows and experiencing the night life!

Kenny is survived by his parents, Kevin and Nancy Hadley; his life partner, Jason Scala and his family; his grandmother, Jane Putnam of Springfield, VT; his aunt, Debbie Birdsey and her partner, Sue Sirois of Hampstead, NH; his uncle, Mark Putnam and wife Deb of Springfield, VT; his aunt Mary Neronsky and husband Jeff of Ludlow VT; his uncle Steven Putnam and wife Lisa of Kittery, ME; his aunt Jodi Putnam and partner, Arthur Siegal of Quincy, MA; his uncle, Colin Hadley and wife, Joanne of North Springfield, VT; his aunt, Marcia Fontaine of Springfield VT; and many cousins.

Kenny was predeceased by his late paternal grandparents, Kenneth R. and Jan Hadley, and maternal grandfather, Forrest John Putnam.

Those who wish to do so, may share their fondest memories of Kenny at his Celebration of Life being held at Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter, NH on Sunday, October 15th at 11:00 A.M. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boston Children’s Hospital Liver
Transplant Program or to the ALS Research Foundation –Boston.
