Ernest "Ernie" Gumm
Ernest (Ernie) Gumm, 81, of Exeter, NH, formerly of Lexington, MA, succumbed to cancer on March 17th. Husband of 60 years to Barbara (Powers) Gumm and father of Linda Gumm, of Nashua, NH, Nancy Demers, and husband, Wayne, of Exeter, NH and Richard Gumm, of Bow, NH.
Ernie was raised in Allston, MA and attended Brighton High School, then married and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean war. He later attended Boston University. He was President and a partner of Matheson-Higgins, Inc. and retired in 1992.
The family lived in Framingham, MA where Ernie was an active participant in neighborhood charity shows and the Framingham Choral Society. They later moved to Lexington, MA where he was active with the Lexington Pops Chorus and sang once with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. He sang with the Savoyard Light Opera Company for 13 years. He never lost his love of singing, nor his sense of humor.
For the last 25 years of his life, there was nothing he would rather do than spend time at the lake house on Lake Winnipesaukee with his family. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed by them all.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, sister, Mildred, his three children and two grandchildren, Sam and Elizabeth Demers, of Exeter, NH.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, March 22nd, at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter from 11:00 – 1:00 PM. The Service will follow at 1 PM. Burial will be private. A reception will be held during the visiting hours at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to the Rockingham VNA/Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833.
