Joseph F. Laurier Gaulin





Joseph F. Laurier Gaulin, of Ft. Myers, Florida, formerly of Exeter, New Hampshire, passed away on November 13, 2016 after a long illness at Joanne’s House, a Hospice facility in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Joseph was born in East Angus, Canada on January 22, 1925, the son of Edmund and Rose Gaulin.

He was a 1942 graduate of Exeter High School in Exeter, New Hampshire. He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. Upon his return from active duty, he attended the University of New Hampshire majoring in Civil Engineering, graduating with the class of 1949 Cum Laude.

He married Doris S. Booth in 1946. He is survived by his loving wife Doris of 70 years and sons David P. Gaulin & wife Patricia of Danbury, CT and Peter R. Gaulin & wife Alice of Bostic, NC and daughter-in-law Mary Gaulin of Greenland, NH.  He was predeceased in 1970 by son Donald Gaulin and in 2013 by son Stephen J. Gaulin. He leaves seven grandchildren, Christopher J. Gaulin and his wife Rachael, Jeffrey D. Gaulin and his wife Lisa, Michael Gaulin, Philip Gaulin, Kimberly Rosenberger and her husband Jeff, Laurie Gaulin, Alina Womick & her husband Evan. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, William, Emily, Madelyn, Mireille, Colton Gaulin, Alice and Ethan Womick. He is survived by one sister, Pierrette Stone, of Stratham, NH and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph was the president of National Fence & Granite Company in Concord, NH which he founded in 1957. He was owner and president of Rila Precast in Brentwood, NH. In 1972, he served as President of the Associated General Contractors of New Hampshire. He also served as President of New Hampshire Good Roads Association. Joseph served as Chairman of the New Hampshire Water Pollution Commission and on the board of the National Highway Specifications Committee for the Association of General Highways. He served on the board of several other companies in management positions. He was Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Exeter, NH.

Joseph was an avid golfer as a member of Fiddlestick Country Club, Fort Myers, FL for nearly 30 years and Abenaqui Country Club in Rye, NH. He enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the ABCL for many years.

Joseph was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter, NH and St. Theresas Church, Rye, NH. In Florida, he attended Resurrection Church until his health deteriorated. He was a fine gentleman and loved by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter, NH. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 7th at St. Michael’s Church, Exeter, NH. A reception to follow at the Stockbridge Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Joanne’s House, 27200 Imperial Parkway, Bonita Springs, FL 34135. Services will be planned for a later date in Fort Myers, FL.
