East Kingston, NH – Peter L. Gates, 72, of East Kingston died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the Kindred Hospital in Peabody, MA.

He was born January 22, 1942 in Boston, MA the son of the late Lester and Anna (Brown) Gates.

He was raised in Lynnfeld, MA and was a graduate of Lynnfield High School and lived for most of his life in Wakefield, MA before moving to East Kingston 25 years ago.

He owned and operated Gates Heating Company for many years. He was an avid race car fan and enjoyed restoring vintage cars in his own shop. He was a former member of the Wakefield Elks Club.

Family members include his wife of 47 years, Patricia M. (MacDonald) Gates of East Kingston, his sister, Ruthann Gates of Oregon and also survived by several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Donald Gates and his brother Kenneth Gates.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, August 15, 2014 at St. Michael’s Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter, NH at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may visit with the family, Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH from 4-8 PM. Private burial will be in Puritan Memorial Park, Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Catholic Charities, Emergency Assistance Fund, 23 Grant Street, Rochester, NH 03867 or Little Sisters of St. Francis, PO Box 478, Danville, NH 03819.
