Marie “Petey” Gainer
Reston, VA - Marie "Petey" Lipscomb Gainer, "Nana", died March 25, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Reston, VA. She was in the company of and surrounded by her loving family.
Petey was born July 16, 1926, in Montgomery, AL. She was the wife of Col. Hubert W. "Butch" Gainer, USAF, Ret. "Bubba" who was the love of her life. They were married in 1943 while he was an air cadet stationed at Maxwell Army Air Base, Montgomery, AL. He took her by the hand and showed her the world for 64 years. She is now forever with him.
Petey was a resident of Newmarket and North Hampton, NH for almost 30 years and was a long-time volunteer with the North Hampton Public Library. She had a servant's heart, was a mother to all and a friend to everyone. She made the best Lemon Icebox Pie and Mac and Cheese in the world. The greatest compliment you could have received from her was to be called "A Good Doobie".
Goodbye to our Mom, our Nana, until we see you again. Thank you for Peabody, for the ponds in Lynnfield, the long lazy summers and for showing us all the way. We love you lots.
"Stick with me Honey, and you'll be wearing diamonds in your nose".
Whatever, Bubba!
She is survived by her daughters Kathryn A. Ballew and her husband Glynn of Reston, Va., and Lisa G. Larsen and her husband Gary of Danvers, MA, her grandchildren Christopher A. Ballew, Paul M. Ballew, Kevin M. McCarthy, Andrew J. Larsen and Katalin M. Larsen; and 6 great-grandchildren
A memorial service celebrating Petey's life will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 12 PM in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
