Margaret Dwyer Gaidmore
Margaret Dwyer Gaidmore “Peg”, age 96, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2013, with her family by her side.
She was born July 20, 1917 in Portsmouth NH. The daughter of Irish immigrants, Edward and Catherine (Quill) Dwyer, Margaret displayed her Irish heritage with great pride and humor. She was a proud South Ender with her best friends, Mary Flahive and Louise Hutchins and a 1935 graduate of Portsmouth High.
Margaret’s love of family and friends is what made her happy. She was known for her outgoing, lively spirit in good conversation and caring for others. She made beautiful braided and hooked rugs, many knit afghans and sewing outfits for her girls. Margaret was an active member of Dover Senior Service Council, the Homemakers of Strafford County, and the Dover Chapter of the AARP. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Dover and a member of the Women’s Guild. She enjoyed working at Lacey’s Department Store and Sawyer Mills Knitting Department.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Leon W. Gaidmore, whom she dearly loved and her sister, Katherine Parry Preston. She is survived by her three children, Jack Gaidmore of Jupiter FL, Marilyn Gaidmore Wallingford and husband Cal of Hampton, Kathleen Gaidmore Maddock of Greenland, and six grandchildren, Jason Gaidmore and wife Aideen, Benjamin Gaidmore, Sarah Wallingford Osmond and husband Stephen, Anna Wallingford, Kira Maddock Kimick and husband Scott, and Marisa Dwyer Wilich and husband Rob, and three great-grandchildren, Zoe, Quinn and Donnacha Gaidmore.
The family expresses a special thanks to the staff of the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Ernest P. Barka Assisted Living and SolAmor Hospice.
At the family’s request, all services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Rockingham County Nursing Home Patient Activity Fund.
