Arthur L. French







Arthur French died October 3, 2015 at Exeter Hospital after a long illness. He was born on December 28, 1931 to Leon P. French and Elsie (Ayers) French in Exeter N.H. He attended Dover Technical School before enlisting in the Air Force. 

Arthur was a man of many talents and worked as a flight engineer during the Korean War, an electrician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, a police officer in Exeter NH, owned Allied Electric in Stratham NH.  After returning from living in Paris, Texas for five years, he returned to the Exeter area and taught automotive and electrical courses and became the Electrical Inspector for the Town of Exeter for 18 years before retiring in 2012. For fun, he served as a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 185, managed a country western band, The Feminiques, and was a charter member of the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department and a founder of the Stratham Fair. 

Family members include his wife of 60 years Lucille (Jette), and children James (Pamela) French of Epping; Donald (Anita) French of Stratham, Anita French, Darlene (Ronald) Fuller of Brentwood, David French (fiancé Laurie Chapman) of Seabrook and Thomas (Esther) French or Barrington. He adored his 9 grandchildren: Jessie French-Danzi, Kaela French, Kimberly French, Anna French, Bryan French, Nicholas Fuller, Jeffery Fuller, Steven Fuller and Aaron Fuller.  He was also blessed with one 1 great granddaughter, Lucille Marie Danzi. His siblings include Francis Blancato of Exeter and Robert Strout of North Hampton. He is predeceased by his brother Raymond Strout and sisters Elaine Morrison and Margorie Randall.   

Donations in his name may be made to Beacon Hospice in Portsmouth or the American Diabetes Association.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, corner of Front and Lincoln Streets, Exeter, Thursday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and visit with the family Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.  Burial will be in Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham.
