David A. Flanders
Exeter – David A. Flanders, 75, passed away at Exeter Hospital, on Saturday, January 31, 2015 with his beloved wife and family by his side. Born August 1, 1939 in Plymouth, NH, he was the son of the late Frank Sr. and Delphine (Dupuis) Flanders.
David was a devoted husband and father and leaves behind his wife of 51 years Jill (Kelley) Flanders of Exeter, three daughters Kimberly Cross of Exeter and husband Stan, Tracey Young of Manchester, Kelley Fowler of Epping and husband Aaron, and five grandchildren, Megan Young, Erica and Benjamin Fowler, and Clay and Sam Cross. He is also survived by a brother, Frank (Bud) Flanders, Jr, of Brentwood and wife Brenda, two sisters, Carol Henry of Exeter and husband Clark, and Patricia Keller of Exeter along with several nieces and nephews.
David graduated from Exeter High School, and earned his Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology from North Shore Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration from the University of NH. His 30 year career in Public Safety began at the Exeter Fire Department where he reached the rank of Lieutenant, and subsequently became an Inspector with the State of NH Fire Marshal’s office. David spent the majority of his career as the Public Safety Director at the University of NH and later became Public Safety Director at Tufts University. His final position before retiring was as the VP of Military and Law Enforcement Sales at SIGARMS in Exeter.
David served as a Member of the NH House of Representatives from 1990–1999. He was a life member of the Hundred Club of NH. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Exeter Country Club for many years, and is a member of the Exeter Sportsman’s Club.
David traveled extensively for business and pleasure throughout the world. He and Jill enjoyed their frequent trips to Aruba and cruises throughout the Caribbean.
SERVICES: Calling hours are Friday, February 6, from 6 to 8 pm at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, NH. A celebration of David’s life will take place on Saturday, February 7 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to The Hundred Club of NH, PO Box 23, Manchester, NH 03105-0023 or the Salvation Army, PO Box 955, Keene, NH 03431-0955. There will be a private burial in the spring.
