Hillary E. Smith Ehlen died Monday, October 7th in Stratham, NH with dignity and grace in the loving embrace of her family.

Hillary endures through her beautiful legacy of bright optimism, fierce loyalty, and her unrelenting strength and compassion. Her unique outlook on life and spirit taught many friends and family to seek the joy in life, and not to be burdened by its many imperfections. Her tremendous impact on the lives she touched will give us all shining hope in the months and years to come.

Teacher and Mother, Hillary had special connections with children, the arts, and Nantucket.

Hillary was born February 28, 1972 in Connecticut, and graduated from Greenwich Academy and Wheaton College. She worked and lived in NYC before marrying and moving to Woodstock, Vermont where she taught elementary school. She was proudly connected to the Stratham and Seacoast community where she moved to raise her family.

She is survived by her sons, Nicholas, Chase and Everett, and husband, James G. Ehlen, III, her father, H.C. Bowen Smith of Greenland, NH, her sister Kendall Smith of Stratham, her brother Kent Smith of Boston, sister-in-law Catherine H. Ehlen and parents-in-law Carol and James G. Ehlen, Jr. of Durham.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Stratham Community Church at 6 PM on Sunday, October 27.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in memory of Hillary to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via www.dana-farber.org/gift .
