Elmer “Bud” Dunn







Kensington – Elmer “Bud” Dunn, 86, of Kensington died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Frisbee Hospital in Rochester.

He was born In West Newbury, MA, November 25, 1930 the son of the late Percy M. and Elizabeth (Poore) Dunn.

He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1953, after serving his beloved country during the Korean Conflict.

After returning from the war, Bud was active in archery and won several competition awards.

In his earlier years raising his family, Bud was active in the Kensington Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Troop 189. He was also active in the Kingston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps.

Bud retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1986. In his retirement years, he worked part time at Exeter High School in the food service department. He also enjoyed volunteering for American Legion Baseball. He was also involved with the Kensington Congregational Church as a deacon and took pride in making the baked beans for the Church’s bean suppers. He also worked for the Kensington Cemetery as the cemetery groundskeeper.

In his later years, Bud started his day by having coffee with “the boys” at the Kensington Fire Station and then later at the Kensington Country store while discussing Town happenings.

Bud was a past Department Commander for the Kensington American Legion Post 105 and then served as the District Commander for the State of NH. He and his wife, Jackie, traveled extensively throughout the United States to attend National American Legion conventions. One of his most memorable of those trips was visiting the Korean War Monument in Washington, DC.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rochester Manor, as well as, his medical team at Frisbee Memorial Hospital, for their compassionate care of dad in his final days.

He was the husband of the lte Shirley “Jackie” Dunn.

Family members include his children, Doud Dunn and his wife, Debra, Steohen Dunn and his wife, Jeannie, Dennis Dunn and his wife, Paula, Brenda Dauphinais and her husband, Bill abd Karen Moran and her husband, Paul, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great grand children.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Angelia Hoster and Shirley Harris.

Services will be held at the Hampton Falls First Baptist Church, 3 Lincoln Avenue, Hampton Falls, Friday at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Family flowers only. If desired donations may be made to the Hampton Falls First Baptist Church, Children’s Fund, 3 Lincoln Avenue, Hampton Falls, NH 03844. Burial will be private.
