Norma J. Deranian


Portsmouth – Norma Jean King Deranian, 78, of Portsmouth, NH died February 7, 2012 at Exeter Healthcare.

She was born January 2, 1934 in Fitchburg, MA the daughter of the late Samuel and Helen (Tibbetts) King.

A homemaker, she was a graduate of Wakefield High School and attended Boston University.  

She is survived by her children Janet Deranian, Paul Deranian and his partner Donna Harrison, and Stephen Deranian; her grandchildren Rebecca, Christopher, and Emily Deranian; and also her brother, Samuel King.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Minas “Mike” Deranian.

Norma loved cooking, knitting, reading, and driving to the coastline of New England.  Traveling throughout the United States and Europe was also an interest.  She enjoyed telling people her birthday was “1-2-3-4”.  Raising her children was always a priority for herself and her husband, Mike.  She loved telling stories about them and always said it was her proudest accomplishment.   Janet is a pastor in the United Methodist Church.  Paul has been practicing medicine for 20 years as an intensivist and pulmonologist. Steve is a colonel in the USAF Reserves and a first officer with a major airline. Along with her children, being in the presence of her grandchildren gave her the greatest joy.

A memorial service will be held at the Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH, on Thursday, February 16 at 10:30 AM.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.  Interment will occur in the spring at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Richie McFarland Center supporting early childhood development, http://www.richiemcfarland.org .
