Frederick J. DeFreitas

Frederick Joseph DeFreitas of Exeter, NH, died May 4, 2011 at the Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, NH.  He was born in Manchester, NH, on December 15, 1926, to Frederico P. and Gabriella F. (Rodrigues) DeFreitas.

He attended Manchester schools, then joined the naval reserves and reported for active duty in September 1944.  Honorably discharged in June of 1946, he returned to Central High School to complete his education, and there he received his diploma.

Being mechanically gifted, he attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA, graduating in 1950 with an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.  He went on to become a first class machinist, working for small machine shops and large corporations including Sanders and GE.  He retired from General Electric in 1989.

He married Annabelle V. Whidden in 1952, and raised four children, Alan, Mark, Annie, and Anthony.  He was devoted to his family, and spent time supporting each of his children and grandchildren in reaching their goals.

He was a communicant of St. Michael Parish, Exeter, NH, where he served as a lector for many years.  He enjoyed playing golf, joining the men’s league at Exeter Country Club, and spending time at the seashore.

He is survived by his wife Annabelle of 59 years, his four children and their spouses, six grandchildren, a sister, Matilda of Meredith, NH, and two brothers, Richard and Gabriel, both of Manchester, NH, and many nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by his sisters Clara, Aura, Lillian and Celeste.

SERVICES:
A Family graveside committal was held on May 6, 2011 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bedford, NH.

A memorial Mass will be held on May 21, 2011 at St. Michael Parish, 9 Lincoln Street, Exeter, NH at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Rd., Dover, NH 03820, or St. Anthony’s Shrine, 100 Arch St., Boston, MA 02110.
