Barbara D. Davis
Exeter - Barbara D. Davis, 83, of Riverwoods, died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Riverwoods following a 6 year battle with cancer.
She was born December 20, 1926 in Oklahoma City, OK a daughter of the late John W. and Harriet (Lanning) Day. Raised in Topeka KS, Mrs. Davis attended the University of Kansas, Antioch College, and Oberlin College and was a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She had resided in Exeter since 1995, coming from Hanover, NH after living in Norwich, VT from 1955 to 1985.
Mrs. Davis worked many years for Dartmouth College and the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, beginning in 1968 as Project Director in the Office of Instructional Services, and retired in 1987 as Director of Quality Assurance at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
She also volunteered as a docent at Dartmouth’s Hood Museum of Art and was active in the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Davis was a classically trained soprano soloist and sang in the choir as a member of the Norwich, VT Congregational Church for 40 years and as a member of the Exeter Congregational Church for the past 14 years. She was active her entire adult life in the Congregational Church and spent nearly every summer since childhood at the Congregational Summer Assembly in Frankfort, MI. It was there in 1946 where she met her husband, William P. Davis, Jr. Together they shared 57 years of marriage, until his death in 2004.
Family members include two sons, Christopher L. Davis of Bourne, MA and Timothy L. Davis of Wilmette, IL; three daughters Glynis D. Lanzetta of Mount Pleasant, MI, Jennifer D. Thomson of Ann Arbor, MI, and Bethany D. Hayes of White River Junction, VT; 9 grandchildren; two brothers, John W. Day, Jr. of Bellingham, WA and Robert G. Day of Middletown, RI; one sister, Mary D. Stutz of Trumbull, CT; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, June 28th at 11 A.M. in the Great Bay Room at Riverwoods, 7 Riverwoods Drive, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverwoods- Employee Appreciation Fund, 7 Riverwoods Drive, Exeter, NH 03833.
