Barbara R. Conlin
Barbara “Bobbie” R. Conlin, 84, of Rye, New Hampshire passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at her home, Webster at Rye.
She was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, on May 13, 1931, a daughter of the late Adele (Marsh) and Roger M. Rowe. Bobbie was raised “on the Sound” and loved sailing with her father and brother while growing up in Darien, CT. She attended Bennett Junior College in Millbrook, NY.
Barbara met Frank W. Conlin, Jr., while skiing at Bromley Mountain in Vermont. They were married on June 6, 1957, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, New Jersey. Bobbie and Frank settled in Summit, NJ, where they raised five children.
Bobbie was a member of the Junior League of Summit, where she enjoyed doing volunteer work in the community. The family spent many happy summer days at Copper Springs Beach & Tennis Club in Meyersville, NJ, where Bobbie was a singles tennis champion. She worked at a news organization in New York City before marriage, and later was employed by SAGE as a homemaker for homebound elderly clients. In later years, Bobbie enjoyed being a crossing guard for schoolchildren in Summit.
Upon retirement, Bobbie and Frank moved to Exeter, NH, and enjoyed spending time with their many grandchildren. In her later years, Bobbie was a beloved resident of Langdon Place of Exeter and Webster at Rye.
Bobbie is survived by children Kathleen M. Gilmore of Exeter, NH; Anne O’Donnell and her husband Daniel of Wall Township, NJ; Susan A. Ryan and her husband Marshall of Gillette, NJ; Stephen F. Conlin and his wife Christel of Bolton, MA; Cynthia J. Conlin and her partner Thomas Studley of Stratham, NH; her sisters Patsy Badger of AZ, Nancy Allen of CT, and brother Roger M. Rowe, Jr. of FL; fifteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Frank W. Conlin, Jr. of Exeter, NH.
A memorial service will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, at 11:00 a.m. on October 10, 2015, followed by interment at Exeter Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to Rockingham Nutrition Meals on Wheels, 106 North Road, Brentwood, NH 03833 or online at http://rockinghammealsonwheels.org/.
