Carolyn L. Brouillette
Exeter – Carolyn (Cal) Louise Brouillette died Thursday, May 19, 2011 with her family near her side after a period of failing health.
She was born in Concord on May 27, 1924, a daughter of Solon and M. Shirley (Paine) Colby.
She graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1942 and New Hampshire Memorial Hospital where she earned her RN degree. She also took post graduate courses in surgery at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.
She truly enjoyed her lifelong career as a nurse. She was employed by Keene, Portsmouth and Exeter Hospitals, retiring in 1984 from Rockingham County Nursing Home as a supervisor.
During the early 1970’s she was instrumental in forming Concerned Citizens Against Drunk Drivers. She also belonged to The Park Street Common Folk, a group organized to clean up and beautify a once run down and decrepit park in Exeter. She was a former member of the Exeter Garden Club and most recently was a volunteer at Stratham Clothes Attic.
Carolyn and her late husband, Mark, wintered in Palmetto, Florida for many years, where she made long lasting friendships. Carolyn enjoyed her grandchildren, was an exceptional seamstress, had a passion for flower gardening, (priding herself with weed-free gardens), and in her spare time liked the challenge of piecing together complex jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered as having a wonderful sense of humor and was also known as being spirited and independent.

She was predeceased by her husband Mark in 1996 after fifty years of marriage and a son Bruce who died in 1992. Her family includes three children: Bonnie Chapman, Martha Brouillette-Martel, and Tom Brouillette; daughter-in-law Nancy Brouillette and son-in-law Robert Martel. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister Janice Slater and her husband Robert Slater, a brother Solon (Prun) Colby, Jr., and a sister-in-law Estelle (Stellie) Colby. She was also predeceased by a brother John (Jack) Colby and a sister-in-law Eleanor Colby, (wife of Solon).
