Alan C. Bailey
Exeter – Alan C. Bailey, 81, of Exeter died Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.
He was born August 17, 1934 in Providence, RI the son of the late Robert and Bertha (Bromley) Bailey.
Mr. Bailey was a graduate of East Greenwich High School and a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. He was a Research and Development Scientist for Corning, Inc. in Corning, NY for 32 years, retiring in 1994. He was involved with materials and processes including development of fiber optics and optical waveguides. He held 12 patents.
He also was Town Supervisor for the town of Big Flats NY during a period in the 1970's and had great interest in local government.
He was a member and elder of the Exeter Presbyterian Church (PCA).
Family members include his wife, Lorraine (Fiske) Bailey, his surviving children: Steven Bailey (Minneapolis, MN) Linda Bailey (St. Louis, MO), Susan Dwyer (Lawrenceville, GA), Leslie Melnyk (Minneapolis, MN), Anne Campbell, (Corning, NY), and John Bailey (deceased); as well as surviving step-children: Geraldine Wagner (Bolton, MA) and Rebecca Husak (Wyndham, NH) He is survived by brothers Robert Bailey (Springvale, ME), Charles Bailey (Warwick, RI), James Bailey (North Kingstown, RI) and sisters Barbara Penniston (Beaufort, SC) and Marion Tibbetts (East Greenwich, RI). His deceased siblings were Patricia Lallo and George Bailey.
Alan had 11 grandchildren: Claire and Connor Dwyer, Laurel and Anna Melnyk; Luke, Jacob and Isaac Campbell; Hampton and Matthew Wagner; and Olivia and Piers Husak.
A Memorial service will be held at the Exeter Presbyterian Church, 73 Winter Street, Exeter on December 12, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are most welcome. Private burial was in Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham.
