Channing Bacall, Jr.
Exeter – Channing Bacall, Jr., 87, of Exeter, NH formerly of Salem, MA died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the RiverWoods retirement community, in Exeter.
He was born November 3, 1926 in Salem, MA the son of the late Channing and Mary (Parker) Bacall, Sr.
Channing was raised in Salem, MA and was a graduate of Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA and a graduate of Harvard College with an A.B. Degree in U.S. History. He was a financial executive for Parker Brothers for 25 years.
Channing was committed to community service, having devoted 35 years to service as a Trustee of the Salem Hospital (1955-1990), and 31 years to service as a Trustee of the Salem Five Cents Savings Bank (1966-1997), including as a member its Board of Investment. He also served as a Trustee of the House of the Seven Gables, the Bertram Home for Aged Men, and the Salem Public Library.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving as Corporal.
Family members include his wife of 52 years, Joan H. (Brownell) Bacall of Exeter, his son, Charles Parker Bacall of North Yarmouth, ME, his daughter, Emily Bacall Vinton of East Hampstead, NH, his granddaughters, Abigail DeRigo, Cecelia DeRigo and Marby Vinton of East Hampstead, NH, Katherine Bacall, and Victoria Bacall of North Yarmouth, ME, his grandson, Parker Bacall of North Yarmouth, ME, and his sister, Mary Bacall Hester of Lincoln, MA.
At his request services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the House of the Seven Gables Development Department, 115 Derby Street, Salem, MA 01970.
